The possibility of taking dogs to such a picturesque setting is, without a doubt, another attraction for visiting this region and staying at Finca Arboleda. In addition, the viewing point and proximity to a car park make the visit comfortable and accessible. Of course, it is important to remember the need to comply with the established rules to guarantee the coexistence and well-being of all beach users, both human and canine.

This new space promises to be a great place to enjoy the summer in a relaxed way and in the company of our four-legged friends.

Spring 2004 at Finca Arboleda

Old pool knocked down

When we first got there, the place was pretty messy, and what we now call “the Old Stables” used to be, well, old stables. In March 2004, we experienced our first storm, which made us realise we would need to make some much-needed improvements to the road and accessibility.
We started by cleaning up the gardens, getting rid of the old pool, and spreading gravel around the beautiful citrus trees. We also began working on the “Orange Grove Apartment” by building a wall in our garage and creating a doorway by the fireplace in the sitting room we had a new bedroom. We didn’t take many pictures back then, but the memories are still fresh in our minds.
Our first guests stayed with us in February 2004, and even though we were still building, we became fast friends

Finca Arboleda When We Arrived.

Ruubish to be cleared

Back in 2003, we decided to shake things up and move to Spain for a fresh start.

After just three visits, we found our dream home: the lovely Finca Arboleda. We bought the place in December and moved in on January 7th. The story continues here.

Discover Almería from within Andalucia.

Finca Arboleda is a safe retreat for a change of scenery.

If you live here, are on holiday or staying with friends in Andalucia this is the perfect time to discover Almeria.

Finca Arboleda is the perfect retreat for you. Set in 5000 square metres of mature gardens in the countryside but only 5 minutes  to Vera town and 10 mins to the coast.

We live here but the one bedroom apartment and the two bedroom villa are well equipped and totally self contained. Both have heating, TV and their own internet connection.

www.fincaarboleda.com will give you loads of information but just get in touch if you are interested.

You can even bring a dog if you like, we are fully fenced.

Easyjet puts autumn and winter flights on sale early

Easyjet puts autumn and winter flights on sale early

EasyJet has put all its flights for autumn and next winter on sale early – for a flat fare of £29.99, even during Christmas and school holiday peaks, writes the Guardian’s transport correspondent Gwyn Topham.

The airline said the move will give more scope to passengers who had booked flights for the next couple of months to find alternatives, without any charges to change existing bookings (or to rebook should the crisis persist).

The extraordinary step could provide particularly good deals for people booking in the next week for peak season – and perhaps a glimmer of optimism for some normality ahead.

EasyJet will hope it generates some revenues and forward bookings at a time when demand has vanished and airlines await details of the chancellor’s promised package of help, with the industry warning that most airlines worldwide could go bankrupt by the end of May.

Tarmac our road

Tarmacking our road

Well we’ve waited two years with Pirkko prodding the town hall and now it’s happening TARMAC!!

They aren’t doing directly outside our gates today as apparently they need a smaller machine, but from the water crossing all the way down to the existing tarmac is being done as I write this. The water crossing will be concreted later and the last few metres up to our gates will then be tarmacked.

No more sleepless nights when we get our occasional storms, worrying if the road will be damaged, we hope!

Tough Life For New Girls At Finca Arboleda.

Mincy & Brindle
Top Dogs at Finca Arboleda

New Dogs on the block. Our dear Stiggy died last year and now these two have moved in. Mum, Mincy, and four pups were living rough in the area for quite a time apparently. They turned up in the field outside Finca Arboleda and we managed to coax them into our garden. They were all understandably very nervous and it took a while to gain their confidence but eventually we managed to get hold of three of them and they have gone for check ups before being offered for adoption.

We have kept Mincy and one of the pups, Brindle, who we guess is about six months old. They are eating well, look healthy and are slowly starting to trust us. Mincy is a pure Galgo, Spanish Greyhound and we think Brindle is a Galgo, Podenco cross. They seem to spend 90% of their time sleeping and the rest of the time eating or charging around the garden.

Next step is to get them to the vet for a thorough check up, jabs and tagging. That will be interesting. They are very gentle, enjoy a cuddle on the sofa and are looking forward to meeting you all at Finca Arboleda.

Largest geode cave in Europe opens to visitors.

Geode Pulpi

The Pulpí Geode, the largest in Europe and second in the world,  opened this summer to visitors 20 years after being discovered in southern Spain.

The crystal cave is a major attraction in the Pilar de Jaravía area due to its size and the transparency of the rocks.

It is located 50 meters beneath Mina Rica, a silver mine that closed in the 1960s.

“The mine has an incredibly large variety of minerals. “One of them is a needle-shaped celestine covered with plaster crystals.”

Pulpí is the biggest accessible crystal geode in the world. The world’s largest, with crystals 10 feet long, is located in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

Visitors to the cave in Spain have to walk down a mineshaft before descending a staircase that leads to the vast caverns of the mine and arrive at the geode, an opening in the rock covered with white crystals that measure two meters in length.

The rock at Mina Rica is dolomite, a type of limestone, which in the past was fractured and filled with a hot mineral-rich fluid.

Over the years, the dolomite dissolved and the fluid created an egg-shaped cavity.

The cooling of the liquid and the tectonic calm caused the formation of plaster crystals.

Pulpí’s geode was discovered in 1999 by members of the Mineralogist Group of Madrid, who found a fracture with “impressive plaster crystals”.

It would be rude not to.

Summer is made for a refreshing G&T, well any time of the year is really. We have a local gin that is made in Turre, Portomagno and of course all of your favourites are available locally. A choice of tonics is also very important.

There may be one thing that you can only find at Finca Arboleda and that is our wonderful organic lemons.

So book your flight. Book a stay at Finca Arboleda. Pick up some Gin,Tonic and ice in the supermarket and help yourself to a perfect lemon.

What are you waiting for?

Of course some people just enjoy fresh lemon squeezed into water in the morning, each to their own!
