We visited the Gastro fair on Saturday. It was a glorious afternoon in the lovely setting of El Palmeral and it was very well supported with up to a 1000 people there. To be honest I’m pretty rubbish at estimating crowds so it may have been less! There were about 20 food stalls there from various local restaurants as well as beer tents and a few bodegas.
There were also cookery demonstrations and live music. It is certainly worth a visit if they repeat it later in the year.
17,18 and 19 February in the park El Palmeral in Vera.
Vera offers a festival for all employers in the food, crafts and culture, who will share their specialties with all visitors coming to the Fair “El Palmeral”, on the 17,18 and 19 February 2017, during the First Edition of GASTROANDALUCIA. Popular tastings, craft exhibitions, food festivals, dances … and for the little ones a children’s gastronomic competition; will be some of the activities that will complement the fair.
Karst topography is a landscape formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves.
The caves at Sorbas are some of the best preserved and are open for tours of different difficulty depending on the individual. As someone who is a little claustrophobic I’m happy to hear about your adventures and post your pictures here.
Almeria is probably the warmest and driest part of Europe at this time of year. If you fancy a winter break in January or February we are offering the second week for half price for a limited period. Contact us for details.
Bellavista restaurant really is our “Jewel in the crown” at the moment. Fantastic location, slightly elevated giving fantastic views across the mediterranean, recently given an internal makeover, friendly staff and above all great food with good value prices.
Our Visit
We went last time as a group of six to celebrate our successful olive picking and had a great menu del dia for around €13 a head. My fish soup was among the best i’ve had, i love a fish soup, and the homemade desserts are not to be missed. There is a wide range of mains to choose from and the house wine is very drinkable and affordable.
Go and try it, you won’t be disappointed.
They don’t have a great web site but it has contact details here.
Miraflores restaurant is situated at Los Gallardos camping about 6Km from Finca Arboleda. The restaurant has a good reputation locally for functions, it’s Sunday roasts and fish and chips on a Friday.
Fish and Chips
We fancied trying them after good reports and wow it was excellent, a normal size is €6.50 and the large €8.50, probably not what you are after if you are in Spain for a short holiday when there is so much good local food to try, especially the fish, but it’s there if you fancy it. They offer a full menu on other days.
We have just refitted the bathroom in our house and were so pleased with the results we thought we would do something similar in the accommodation. While our bathroom was refitted we moved into the apartment and realised the layout could be improved, we hope the guests like it.
